Surge in Security Service Applications: 90,000 Apply for 12,000 Positions
- Nearly 90,000 individuals applied for a limited number of positions within Ghana's security services
- Parliament has authorized the recruitment of approximately 12,000 new personnel
- The large pool of applicants will face a stringent selection process
Interior Minister Henry Quartey has announced that nearly 90,000 people applied to join Ghana’s security services by the recruitment deadline on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
The recruitment drive, launched on August 7, 2024, by the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and Ghana Immigration Service, attracted a high volume of applicants, many of whom had shown interest in 2021.
In a recent interview, Mr. Quartey highlighted the exceptional response to the recruitment drive. “As of two days ago, we had close to 90,000 applications, according to the report from the security agencies managing the process,” he said.
Despite the high number of applicants, only about 12,000 positions are available, as approved by Parliament’s budget.
Mr. Quartey stressed that the security agencies will need to apply strict eligibility criteria to select candidates from the large pool of applicants.
“All 80,000 applicants will be evaluated based on the agencies’ criteria to determine who qualifies for admission,” he explained, emphasizing the competitive nature of the selection process.
