Sammy Awuku, the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), has disclosed that President Nana Akufo-Addo provided him with crucial guidance when he assumed his role.

Sammy Awuku revealed that the President emphasized the importance of being mindful of his actions and highlighted that he would be held accountable at the end of his term.

In an interview with an Accra-based FM station, Awuku recalled President Akufo-Addo’s clear instructions: the position was a significant opportunity to excel and bring pride to both himself and others.

He shared that the President’s words, “It is a big stage and I know you can do it. But remember, this is a public office and one day, there will be accountability,” left a lasting impression on him.

Awuku also admitted his initial lack of knowledge about the lottery industry, noting that his political background had not prepared him for the specifics of the NLA.

He explained that, despite his prior experience as the national organizer for the New Patriotic Party, he realized the need to approach his new role with an open mind rather than a political perspective.

To better understand his responsibilities, he spent about ten days studying the NLA and its operations before fully engaging with the role.
