Mahama Promises National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving if Elected
- Mahama proposes that the national day of prayer will cater to both Christian and Muslim communities
- The initiative is designed to encourage citizens to express gratitude for past blessings
- Mahama draws inspiration from similar practices in countries like the United States and Zambia
John Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, has vowed to establish an annual national day of prayer and thanksgiving should he win the 2024 election.
The former President envisions this day as an opportunity for all religious communities in Ghana to unite in gratitude and seek divine guidance.
“We plan to hold a national day of prayer for both Christian and Muslim communities, allowing us all to come together and pray for God’s blessings and prosperity for Ghana,” Mahama stated.
He made this commitment during a meeting with religious leaders in Ho, Volta Region, as part of his campaign tour. Mahama emphasized the importance of giving thanks for past blessings, referencing biblical teachings and international practices.
“Thanksgiving is essential, even as we work hard to improve our circumstances. Countries like the United States and Zambia have national days dedicated to prayer and thanksgiving, and we intend to introduce a similar tradition in Ghana,” Mahama concluded.
