The Minority in Parliament has accused the Akufo-Addo government of concealing a comprehensive list of public lands in Ghana, allegedly to hide their misappropriation of these assets. According to the Minority, the government’s failure to publish the list is a deliberate attempt to avoid exposing their involvement in the alleged land grab and state capture.
The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, recently announced that the government is working on compiling and publishing the list to promote transparency and accountability. However, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, strongly criticized the government’s delay in disclosing the status of public lands.
Ablakwa condemned the government’s inaction, stating that they have had over two years to compile the list since Parliament’s request. He accused the Lands Ministry and Commission of dereliction of duty and complicity in the alleged land grab and state capture.
Ablakwa expressed frustration that the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources failed to produce the list when invited by the Assurances Committee, citing excuses about the complexity of the task. The Minority has concluded that the government is deliberately refusing to disclose the status of public lands because they are complicit in the alleged land grab and state capture.
The Minority demanded that the government publish the list of public lands by the end of the year, citing concerns that public lands are being sold as private lands without benefiting the national treasury. Ablakwa emphasized that the government’s inability to disclose the list for over two years is unacceptable and shows that the Lands Ministry and Commission are not carrying out their constitutional mandate.
