EC to Release Provisional Voter Register on August 16

- Regulation 22 of CI 91 mandates that the EC must compile the provisional register within 90 days
- The EC has committed to providing the provisional register to political parties
- Dr. Quaicoe addressed concerns about the delay
The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the provisional voter register for the December 7 general elections will be released to political parties on Friday, August 16.
This announcement comes after the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the largest opposition party, demanded the immediate availability of the provisional register.
Dr. Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections, criticized the delay, attributing it to the EC’s alleged incompetence and suggesting it was a deliberate effort to provide a subpar register.
Dr. Boamah expressed concerns that the delay could lead to serious consequences and warned of potential instability if the issues are not promptly addressed.
In response, Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, the EC’s Director of Training, clarified on Eyewitness News that the EC is adhering to legal requirements.
According to regulation 22 of CI 91, the EC has up to 90 days after data collection to compile the provisional register. The delay was attributed to the additional mop-up registration process, but the EC assured that the register will be available to parties by Friday, August 16.
