Bawumia Pledges Support for Youth-Owned Startups if Elected

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has made a commitment to support startup businesses and Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) owned by young people if he is elected as President. Speaking on International Youth Day, Dr. Bawumia expressed his confidence that this support will provide skills to over one million youth in Ghana.

He highlighted the government’s digital initiatives as key drivers of growth and development in the country, citing mobile money interoperability and drone systems as examples. Dr. Bawumia also emphasized the introduction of a credit system to address the challenges faced by startups and SMEs in accessing loans.

He acknowledged the importance of youth in nation-building and promised to provide skills to over one million youth to engage in digital employment. The Vice President assured the youth that the government will listen to their concerns, advocate for their rights, and support initiatives that promote their development.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Mohammed Yusif, also assured the youth of more opportunities, emphasizing the government’s commitment to developing the skills of young people. Other speakers at the event stressed the need for strong policies to support youth development and empowerment.

The theme of this year’s International Youth Day is “From clicks to progress: youth leading innovations for sustainable development through digital technologies.” The event highlighted the innovative solutions and opportunities presented by digital technologies, with young people leading the charge in driving sustainable development.
