French Olympian Alice Finot Proposes to Boyfriend After 3000-Meter Steeplechase

French Olympian Alice Finot made headlines not only for her performance in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase but also for a heartfelt moment that followed her race. Although Finot did not secure a podium finish, she achieved a personal milestone by proposing to her boyfriend, Bruno Martínez Bargiela, who accepted her proposal.

The touching proposal took place after the final on Tuesday. Finot, having completed the race with a time of 8:58.67, which set a new European record, approached Martínez. She removed her race tag, which held an Olympic pin instead of a traditional engagement ring, and got down on one knee to pop the question.

Martínez was visibly emotional as he received the pin, which Finot had carried with her during the race. Once he composed himself, he embraced his future bride with joy.

Finot’s impressive performance in the steeplechase also set a new European record, surpassing the previous record of 8:58.81 set by Russia’s Gulnara Samitova-Galkina. Finot had previously indicated that her proposal was contingent on finishing the race in under nine minutes. “I told myself that if I ran under nine minutes, knowing that nine is my lucky number and that we’ve been together for nine years, then I would propose,” Finot explained. “I don’t like doing things like everyone else. Since he hadn’t done it yet, I told myself that maybe it was up to me to do it. So, I gave a pin that I ran with to my boyfriend. On it, it says: ‘Love is in Paris.’”

The Paris Games have witnessed several proposals, but Finot’s unique combination of athletic achievement and personal commitment has captured widespread attention.
