The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched a scathing attack on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing him of being a chronic liar who cannot be trusted to fight corruption if elected president. According to the NDC, Dr. Bawumia is one of the key architects of the ongoing state capture and corruption that has sent the country into destruction.

Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, addressed journalists during “The Moment of Truth” on August 7, 2024, calling on Ghanaians to reject the NPP’s flagbearer during the elections. Gyamfi stated that a vote for Dr. Bawumia would be a vote to cover up the corrupt deeds of the NPP government and shield wrongdoers from accountability.

The NDC claims that Dr. Bawumia has proven time and again that he is a chronic liar and therefore cannot be trusted to fight corruption. The party alleges that Dr. Bawumia is neck-deep in the rampant corruption and nepotism that has engulfed the NPP government.

The NDC asserts that Dr. Bawumia cannot fight corruption because he is an integral part of the free-for-all grabbing of state resources and the unprecedented state capture currently witnessed in the country. The party called on the electorates to vote for its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, to fight corruption when given the nod in the 2024 general elections.

According to the NDC, Mahama has promised to confront the canker of corruption head-on by ensuring that the sword of accountability cuts both ways. The NDC claims that Mahama will hold members of the corrupt Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government accountable for all their corrupt acts if elected president.
