Highly-regarded strength and conditioning coach Aled Walters has made a surprising move from the England rugby team to take up the role of head of athletic performance with Ireland.
Walters, who joined England from Leicester Tigers ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, brings a wealth of experience to the Irish set-up.
His impressive resume includes stints with Munster, South Africa, and key roles in Australia with the Brumbies and Taranaki Rugby Football Union.
Notably, he was head of athletic performance for the Springboks’ World Cup-winning squad in 2019.
Walters replaces Jason Cowman in the Ireland role and will be reunited with Irish rugby after a successful tenure as Munster’s head of athletic performance for nearly six years.
