Allied Health Professionals at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have issued a stern warning to withdraw their services gradually, starting from tomorrow, due to alleged marginalization and exclusion from leadership positions. The health workers are demanding a directorate headed by one of their members as a director, citing 50 years of being treated as second-rate professionals.

The recent advertisement for the position of Deputy Director of Medical Affairs, overseeing Allied Health Professionals, has sparked outrage among the workers. At a news conference in Accra, Chairman of the Korle Bu Chapter of the Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professionals, Dr. Francis Kwakye Antwi, outlined a roadmap to address their grievances.

The roadmap includes limiting services to the barest minimum on August 1, withdrawing OPD services on August 2, and withdrawing in-patient services on August 5. A full strike is planned for August 6, culminating in a nationwide strike on August 7 if their demands are not met.

The withdrawal of services will affect radiography, dental, physiotherapy, and blood services, among others. Dr. Antwi emphasized that the Federation demands recognition and respect for their professions and will fight for their rights.

The Federation is calling on the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, and all six Teaching Hospitals to support the appointment of Directors for the four Teaching hospitals. The Allied Health Professionals are resolute in their demands, seeking equal representation and leadership opportunities, and will not back down until their grievances are addressed.
