Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has formally requested Speaker Alban Bagbin to reconvene Parliament.
This appeal follows dissatisfaction among the Majority caucus over Bagbin’s decision to adjourn the session indefinitely on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
In a letter sent on Wednesday, July 31, Afenyo-Markin emphasized the importance of reconvening Parliament to address urgent government issues.
These include discussions on the Financing Agreement between the Ghanaian government and the International Development Association, tax exemption requests related to the One District, One Factory Programme, the Ghana Financial Stability Fund, and various bills.
Afenyo-Markin reminded Speaker Bagbin that Parliament had been adjourned sine die on July 30, 2024, at which point the aforementioned items were scheduled for consideration.
He stressed that these issues are crucial and require immediate attention to uphold the constitutional responsibilities and serve the interests of Ghanaian citizens.
He concluded by noting that the request is made in good faith and in the national interest to support the government in fulfilling its democratic obligations.
