- Chiefs and queen mothers to receive living allowances.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has promised to construct a nursing training college in the Builsa North Municipality of the Upper East Region if elected president. He made this promise during a visit to the Sandem-Nab, Paramount Chief of the Builsa Traditional Area, Nab Azaksuk Azantilow, at his palace.
Nab Azantilow had appealed for a tertiary institution, among other projects, in the Traditional Area, and Dr. Bawumia responded by promising to deliver a nursing training college. The Paramount Chief mentioned that despite several appeals, including a cold system for the Sandema Hospital, none had received any “sympathetic consideration.”
Dr. Bawumia assured Nab Azantilow that his presidency would prioritize the needs of the Builsa North Municipality, including the construction of a nursing training college. He also promised to review the Chieftaincy Act to empower chiefs to adjudicate cases, as part of his manifesto.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of bringing the chieftaincy institution closer to the government and resourcing chiefs with living allowances. He also pledged to pay living allowances to queen mothers to support the administration of the chieftaincy institution.
The NPP flagbearer was accompanied by several ministers, former government appointees, national and regional party executives, and members of parliament during his visit. Dr. Bawumia urged the people of Builsa North to vote for him and Thomas Alonsi as Member of Parliament to enable them to deliver on their promises.
