The National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA) has responded to calls for the removal of its Executive Director, Dr. Hagar Hilda Ampadu, by the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT).
NAGRAT’s President, Angel Carbonu, had suggested that Dr. Ampadu should be replaced by a more competent individual, citing a lack of effective collaboration with teacher unions and oversight of trained teachers from the Ghana Education Service (GES) for school inspections.
However, NaSIA has defended its executive director, stating that under Dr. Ampadu’s leadership since June 2019, the authority has “undeniably and significantly grown and improved”. NaSIA highlighted its achievements under Dr. Ampadu’s leadership, including a significant increase in its inspection rate.
In 2019, NaSIA inspected an average of 50 schools per year, but this number has now risen to over 10,000 schools per year, including private schools. The authority also produces annual aggregate and individual inspection reports that aid schools in improving learning outcomes.
NaSIA expressed its respect and value for Dr. Ampadu’s leadership and its intention to protect it as much as possible. The authority believes that Dr. Ampadu’s leadership has been instrumental in its growth and improvement.
NaSIA’s statement emphasized the importance of Dr. Ampadu’s continued leadership in achieving its goals. By defending its executive director, NaSIA has made it clear that it stands behind Dr. Ampadu’s leadership and vision for the authority.
