A devastating incident occurred in the Binduri Constituency on Monday, July 22, when a Nissan Pickup belonging to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was set ablaze by unknown individuals. The vehicle, with registration number GX 4164–17, was parked at the residence of Constituency Chairman Samuel Ayaago in Atuba, Binduri District, when the attack happened.

Eyewitnesses reported that between 9:00 pm and 10:00 pm, three masked men on two motorbikes arrived at the scene, firing shots at the front of Mr. Ayaago’s house. The masked men then poured a liquid believed to be petrol on the NPP vehicle, resulting in its complete destruction.

This incident is not an isolated one, as similar attacks occurred in the Zebilla and Pusiga constituencies in June this year. In those attacks, the perpetrators targeted NPP party vehicles and posters bearing the image of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP presidential candidate.

The car that was set ablaze was reportedly being used by Abdulia Abanga, Member of Parliament for the area and Deputy Minister for Local Government, for his campaign activities. Mr. Abanga visited the scene of the incident and expressed regret over the action, calling on law enforcement bodies to take swift action and apprehend the culprits.

He also admonished the constituents, especially members of the NPP, to remain calm while the police investigate the incident. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of political party assets and personnel in the region, with many calling for increased protection and vigilance.
