19-year-old Oliver Bearman is set to become the fourth Briton on the Formula 1 grid next season after signing a multi-year deal with Haas.

This comes after impressing everyone with a seventh-place finish on his surprise debut for Ferrari in Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

“It’s a dream come true,” said Bearman, who recently took his first Formula 2 win of the season in Austria. “I can’t believe I’ll be racing in F1 with Haas.”

Bearman’s potential was evident even before his F1 debut. He filled in for an unwell Carlos Sainz at the last minute in Jeddah and delivered a strong performance, qualifying 11th and finishing an impressive seventh.

“That race showed my abilities,” Bearman said. “It proves young drivers can compete with more experienced racers.”

The young driver revealed he knew about the Haas seat for a while, with the news being officially confirmed after the Austrian Grand Prix.

Haas team boss Ayao Komatsu is excited to have Bearman on board. “We’re thrilled to give such a talented young driver his F1 debut. His maturity and skills were evident during his surprise appearance in Saudi Arabia,” he said.

While Bearman doesn’t have specific targets for his first full season, he aims for continuous improvement throughout the year.
