The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has intensified its call for a thorough investigation into the alleged assault on its TESCON member, Nana Boakye, at the Christian Service University. Nana Boakye, a student of the university, was allegedly attacked by some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during a public lecture by former President John Mahama on the university’s campus.
According to reports, the victim incurred the wrath of his attackers when he remarked that “Mahama will lose” while the former President was delivering his speech. The NPP has condemned the attacks on Nana Boakye, admitting that he made the remarks but emphasizing that they did not warrant physical assault.
The party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, addressed a news conference in Kumasi, urging the Inspector General of Police and the Ashanti Regional Police Command to arrest the perpetrators. Ahiagbah emphasized that the police must ensure justice is served in the matter, stating that Nana Boakye had done nothing wrong to warrant such treatment.
He described the attack as brutal, noting that the victim was slapped and beaten mercilessly outside the auditorium despite the presence of police officers. The NPP has called on the police to investigate the matter expeditiously and bring the perpetrators to book, ensuring they are punished according to the law.
Nana Boakye has since lodged an official complaint at the police regional office, and the NPP is demanding swift action to ensure his safety and justice. The party’s determination to push for a probe into the alleged assault highlights its commitment to protecting its members and upholding the rule of law.
