The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken a significant step towards inclusivity by engaging with Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Shama District of the Western Region.

The party’s Gender, Children and Social Protection Committee met with various groups, including the Ghana Blind Union, Ghana National Association of the Deaf, and the Ghana Society for the Physically Disabled.

The objective was to share the party’s policies and programmes with PWDs and solicit their inputs into the NDC’s 2024 manifesto. This engagement is in line with the NDC’s commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that all segments of society, including the vulnerable and marginalized, are part of Ghana’s development.

PWDs in Ghana face numerous challenges, including inaccessible public buildings, lack of sign language interpreters, delayed release of their share of the Common Fund, and stigma. The NDC aims to address these concerns through its programmes and policies, which include increasing the percentage of the Common Fund allocated to PWDs.

The National Co-ordinator of the Disability Desk of the NDC, Mr. Frederick Assor, assured that the next NDC government would prioritize the needs of PWDs.

The NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Shama, Miss Emelia Arthur, pledged that the party would incorporate the concerns raised by PWDs into their agenda, fine-tuning it to align with their social democratic policies.

This engagement demonstrates the NDC’s commitment to listening to the concerns of all Ghanaians, including those often marginalized or overlooked. By incorporating the inputs of PWDs into their manifesto, the NDC aims to create a more inclusive and equitable society for all.
