The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has thrown a challenge at the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, to testify under oath in the ongoing ambulance trial. Edudzie Tamakloe, head of legal affairs for the NDC, made this call in response to comments made by the Attorney-General at a town hall meeting in the United Kingdom.
At the meeting, Mr. Dame urged Ghanaians to disregard the NDC’s arguments regarding the case, including an audio conversation between himself and the third accused person, Richard Jakpa. However, Edudzie Tamakloe is skeptical of the Attorney-General’s claims, stating that if Mr. Dame has nothing to hide, he should be willing to testify under oath.
Tamakloe questioned why the Attorney-General was worried about being recorded if he was doing nothing wrong. He accused Mr. Dame of being brave from a distance, making noise in London but failing to take concrete action.
Tamakloe emphasized that as a leader of the Bar and the Attorney General of the Republic, Mr. Dame should be willing to take the witness stand to clear his name. He pointed out that the Attorney-General has not denied meeting with Richard Jakpa and a Supreme Court Justice, raising questions about the nature of their conversation.
Tamakloe believes that the Attorney-General’s failure to deny the meeting suggests that he may be hiding something. He urged Mr. Dame to come forward and testify under oath, rather than making statements from a safe distance.
The NDC’s challenge to the Attorney-General has sparked a heated debate about the ambulance trial and the role of the Attorney-General in the case. As the trial continues, many are watching to see if Mr. Dame will take up the challenge and testify under oath.
