Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called upon all Ghanaians to prioritize the preservation of peace and tranquility in the nation.
She emphasized that Ghana’s consistent commitment to peaceful elections throughout its Fourth Republic has demonstrated its dedication to global peace, unity, and reliability in democratic processes.
“At this critical juncture in our history, we must safeguard the peace that defines us as Ghanaians,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated. As the December 7 general elections approach, she urged vigilance in maintaining the current atmosphere of peace and security.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang made these remarks during a donation ceremony for Eid ul-Adha celebrations in Cape Coast, where she presented essential items to the Muslim community.
Highlighting the significance of periodic elections in democratic governance, she acknowledged the potential risks and threats to a peaceful electoral process. She called on all election stakeholders to uphold Ghana’s reputation for conducting transparent, inclusive, credible, and peaceful elections.
Moreover, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stressed the importance of fostering peace and unity among Ghanaians, particularly across religious and tribal lines, as the country prepares for the upcoming elections.
Alhaji Dundey Massawodje IV, Central Regional Zongo Chief, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the Zongo community’s commitment to national peace and unity. He urged political parties and youth to refrain from actions that could disrupt the peace during the election campaign period.
In conclusion, he cautioned against any attempts to manipulate young people into perpetrating violence, reminding them that such actions do not serve the nation’s best interests.
