Violence Erupts in Yendi as NDC and NPP Supporters Clash, Two Injured

A violent clash between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at a voting transfer centre in Yendi has left two individuals, including a media professional, injured.

The conflict began on Tuesday when a group of individuals allegedly transported from Tamale arrived at the constituency to transfer their votes. Tensions escalated when NDC agents challenged the legitimacy of these individuals, leading to an altercation.

A manager for Sakara Radio in Yendi, who was caught in the crossfire, sustained injuries. The identities and conditions of the injured individuals have not been disclosed.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the violence and prevent further clashes between political party supporters. The situation remains tense, with calls for calm and restraint from both sides as the investigation continues.

This incident comes on the heels of a previous attack on a media personality by the Member of Parliament for Yendi, Farouk Mahama, which led to his blacklisting by the Ghana Journalist Association earlier this year. The Northern Regional Police Command is investigating the latest incident.

In a joint press conference, the GJA, GIBA, PRINPAG, and MFWA condemned the violence and urged journalists to exercise caution in dealing with Farouk Mahama, citing concerns for their safety.
