Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 election, has vowed to restore the country’s economic fortunes if elected in December. In a scathing critique of the Akufo-Addo administration, Mr. Mahama lambasted the government for its “gross incompetence” in managing the state, citing the deteriorating economy as evidence of its ineptitude.

On Wednesday, June 5, he took to social media to express his dismay at the government’s handling of the economy, stating, “An obviously clueless, incompetent & ‘yenkyendi’ government. The $ is today trading above 15 GHC.” This statement highlights the significant depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi under the current government.

Mr. Mahama pledged to “RESET and repair the damage” inflicted on the economy by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, focusing on improving the lives of Ghanaians. He emphasized the need for a change in leadership to address the country’s pressing issues, including the struggling economy, and to restore hope to the people. His promise resonated with many who are seeking a change in direction and a return to economic stability and growth.
