EC Reports Over Half a Million New Voters Registered

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced a total of 522,025 newly registered voters as of Sunday, May 19.
During a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, Samuel Tetteh, the Deputy Commissioner overseeing Operations at the EC, disclosed these figures, highlighting the voter distribution across regions.
Notably, the Greater Accra region accounted for 14.3% with 74,420 voters, while the North East region saw 2.7% with 14,147 voters. The Upper East region registered 20,135 voters, constituting 3.9%, and the Northern region tallied 47,948 voters, making up 9.2%.
Further statistics revealed that the Bono region registered 20,886 voters (4%), the Bono East region had 18,861 voters (3.6%), and the Volta region saw 26,486 voters (5.1%).
The Upper West region contributed 15,652 voters (3.0%), while the Eastern region recorded 48,563 voters (9.3%) and the Central region had 56,141 voters (10.8%).
Other regions included the Ahafo region with 10,861 voters (2.1%), Ashanti region with 90,480 voters (17.3%), Western North region with 16,225 voters (3.1%), Oti region with 14,844 voters (2.8%), Savannah region with 12,767 voters (2.4%), and Western region with 33,609 voters (6.4%).
Regarding gender distribution, Tetteh noted that out of the total registered voters, 246,455 were male (47.21%) and 275,570 were female (52.79%).
