EC to Replace Voter ID Cards Lost in Akosombo Dam Spillage for Free

In a move of solidarity and goodwill towards those affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage, the Electoral Commission of Ghana has committed to providing free replacement of voter ID cards.

Starting May 30, 2024, the initiative aims to ease the burden on individuals impacted by the disaster.

The decision, announced in a statement dated May 16, 2024, comes following calls from various quarters, including the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiifi Kwetey, who advocated for cost-free replacements for all affected individuals.

Expressing alignment with the NDC’s stance, the EC emphasized its support for the initiative, affirming its commitment to assist those affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage.
