Ghana’s fight against cocoa smuggling continues to see success. Just days after a man received a 7-year sentence for attempting to smuggle cocoa into Togo, another culprit has faced similar consequences.

Kingsley Kotto, a 38-year-old electrician, was arrested by the Anti-Cocoa Smuggling Task Force while trying to transport cocoa beans to Togo. He was caught with 10 bags of cocoa hidden inside a vehicle carrying agricultural chemicals.

Investigations revealed Kotto purchased the uninspected beans illegally and hired a driver, Eric Kwabena Darko, to transport them. Darko was released after it was determined he was unaware of the smuggling attempt.

Kotto faced multiple charges related to unauthorized cocoa purchase, attempted smuggling, and exporting uninspected beans. He pleaded guilty and received a 7-year prison sentence.

This marks the second 7-year sentence for cocoa smuggling in a week, highlighting Ghana’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal cocoa activities.pen_sparktunesharemore_vert
