During a meeting with representatives of Teacher Unions at the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) headquarters in Accra, John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), unveiled plans for comprehensive educational reform within his first 100 days if elected.
Mahama emphasized the critical role of teachers in national policy reforms and outlined his vision to prioritize education under his administration.
He proposed measures such as adopting local languages as a medium of instruction in early education, expanding teacher training in these languages, and bolstering reading initiatives with increased library construction and textbook provision.
Additionally, Mahama pledged to ensure the timely disbursement of education funds, eliminate restrictions on the use of the GETFUND, and reinstate the free sanitary pad distribution policy.
He also committed to reviving Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and addressing challenges associated with the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy while promoting STEM education in secondary schools.
