US Veteran Accused Of Attempting To Flee After Foiled Plot To Oust Maduro

- Jordan to be detained on weapons smuggling charges
- Goudreau was arrested in New York
- His DNA was recovered from two rifles
Federal prosecutors have requested that Jordan Goudreau, a US military veteran, be detained on weapons smuggling charges related to a failed 2020 raid aimed at ousting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
Goudreau was arrested in New York on charges of violating US arms export control laws by shipping weapons to Colombia for the raid.
Prosecutors argue that Goudreau is a flight risk, citing his online searches for information on evading law enforcement and his alleged travel to Mexico without using normal channels.
However, Goudreau’s lawyer, Hannah McCrea, claims that her client has cooperated with investigators and lived openly in the US since 2020, making him neither a flight risk nor a danger.
Goudreau claimed responsibility for the failed raid, which left eight people dead and several in custody in Venezuela.
His DNA was recovered from two rifles seized by Colombian authorities in 2020.
The case is ongoing, with a judge extending Goudreau’s custody pending trial.
