An Israeli official has refuted claims that Israel apologised to Ghana over the deportation of three Ghanaian nationals, describing the incident as a “consular matter” to be resolved through diplomatic channels.
Speaking to Myjoyonline, the official stated that Israel had raised the issue with Ghana “more than once” and emphasised that such matters are typically handled discreetly between “two friendly and mature states.”
This contrasts with an earlier statement by Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, December 12, that Israeli authorities had issued an apology and both countries were working to de-escalate tensions. Ablakwa noted that Ghana had been firm in demanding fair treatment for its citizens abroad.
“We made it clear that Ghana will respond decisively to any unjustified treatment of our citizens,” he said.
The diplomatic disagreement arose after three Ghanaians were deported from Israel under circumstances the Ministry of Foreign Affairs deemed “unacceptable.” According to the Ministry’s December 10, 2025 statement, two of the individuals were attending a cybersecurity conference while the third was on a pilgrimage.
Ghana viewed the deportations as unjustified and responded by deporting three Israeli nationals from the country.
Both governments have indicated a preference to resolve the issue through established diplomatic channels.
