TAGG Commends COVID-19 Levy Removal

Story Highlights
  • TAGG praises President Mahama for removing the COVID-19 levy
  • Decision seen as easing financial pressure on traders and businesses
  • Pro-business reforms expected to boost trade and economic growth

The Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG) has commended President John Dramani Mahama for approving the removal of the COVID-19 levy, which will come into effect in January 2026.

In a statement issued on December 15, 2025, TAGG described the decision as the fulfilment of a key campaign pledge and a major relief for traders, businesses, and importers who have been burdened by the levy.

According to the group, scrapping the levy demonstrates the government’s commitment to economic stabilisation and the promotion of trade and business growth.

TAGG further called on the government to complement this measure with additional reforms, particularly the harmonisation of benchmark values at the ports, to lower operational costs, reduce corruption, and enhance efficiency.

The group expressed confidence that sustained pro-business policies would strengthen Ghana’s position as a regional trade hub and support long-term, sustainable economic development.
