The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon Samuel Pyne, presented cheques totaling $50,000 to 14 selected youth groups on Wednesday to support their climate action proposals. The ceremony took place at the Kumasi Metro Conference Hall, where the groups also received certificates authorizing them to carry out their projects.

The funds were disbursed by Bloomberg Philanthropies to support innovative climate action initiatives in the metropolis. Hon Pyne urged the beneficiary groups to utilize the funds judiciously to ensure the city can secure an additional $150,000 in October to continue the project.

The Mayor emphasized the importance of successful project implementation to secure future funding. Professor Prince Aboagye Anokye, Select Committee Chairman, explained that the beneficiary groups were carefully selected based on their proposals.

The committee used criteria set by Bloomberg Philanthropies to scrutinize applications, conduct reviews, and hold in-person interviews before making the final selection. Joseph Quaicoe, leader of Sustainere, a beneficiary group, outlined their proposal to plant trees in strategic locations and monitor their growth to positively impact the climate.

Rodeline Adwoa Saah Asare Darko, leader of Earth Guardians Group, highlighted their plan to educate communities on proper waste segregation and sorting to achieve a cleaner environment. The beneficiary groups expressed their determination to implement impactful climate action projects, paving the way for future funding and a sustainable environment.
