Roads Minister Blames Former Administration for Suame Interchange Delays

- Minister Agbodza accuses former Roads Minister Asenso-Boakye of failing to deliver the Suame Interchange on time
- The project’s downgrade controversy arises from delays under the previous government
- Agbodza responds to Minority claims of a two-tier facility design
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has criticized his predecessor, Francis Asenso-Boakye, for failing to complete the Suame Interchange by the end of 2024, as promised by former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Mr. Agbodza contended that the ongoing confusion regarding the status and design of the project would not have occurred if the previous administration had kept its commitment.
Speaking to the press on Monday, February 9, he responded to claims from the Ashanti Caucus of the Minority in Parliament, who alleged that the Suame Interchange had been downgraded from its original design to a two-tier facility.
The Roads Minister explained that the controversy stems from delays under the previous government, not any failure by the current administration.
“Former President Akufo-Addo had stated that the Suame Interchange would be completed and handed over by the end of 2024,” Agbodza said. “If Hon. Asenso-Boakye had followed through with Akufo-Addo’s plan, we wouldn’t even be debating whether it should be a three-tier or four-tier facility now. The delay is due to his and the previous government’s inability to deliver. We are committed to completing the project for the people of Kumasi,” he added.
