For the students of Badu Methodist ‘B’ Basic School in the Tain District of the Bono Region, the rainy season brings more hardship than relief.
The River Kusi has once again overflowed, severing the only route that connects many children to their school. On Tuesday morning, dozens of pupils were left stranded, unable to cross to reach their classrooms.
Residents told Adom News that this has become a recurring issue every year. During each rainy season, children find themselves stuck at the riverbank, with some even attempting to wade through the fast-flowing, hazardous waters just to attend school.
“This happens every year. We are begging the government to build a bridge for our children. Their safety is in danger,” one resident pleaded.
The community is urging the Tain District Assembly, local authorities, and charitable individuals to assist in constructing a bridge over the River Kusi to ensure safe passage for the students.
Locals believe that building the bridge will not only protect the children but also secure the future of education in the area, which is currently at risk due to the rising waters of the river.
