The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) has strongly condemned the assault on a pharmacist and a female client at a pharmacy in Burma Camp, Accra, following the circulation of a viral video showing a soldier physically attacking them.
In a statement signed by its President, Pharm. Paul Owusu Donkor, the Society described the incident as “barbaric, reprehensible, and utterly unacceptable.” It warned that such acts of violence against healthcare professionals threaten public safety and erode respect for the profession.
The assault, allegedly perpetrated by Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Mensah Williams of the Ghana Armed Forces, has triggered widespread public outrage after the footage surfaced on social media.
Officials from the PSGH have since visited the victims at Pride Chemist, assuring them of the Society’s full support and its commitment to ensuring that justice is served. The Society further urged both the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces to conduct a thorough investigation and impose the necessary sanctions on the perpetrator.
“Community pharmacy personnel are front-line healthcare providers who serve the public diligently, and any form of assault against them is an attack on public health,” the statement emphasized.
The PSGH reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the safety and dignity of healthcare workers and called on all stakeholders to ensure that healthcare environments remain safe and respected spaces dedicated to serving humanity.
