A 38-year-old pastor, Wisdom Kwame Adu, also known as Agya, has been granted bail of GH¢150,000 with two sureties—one backed by landed property—for allegedly stealing from his late friend.
Adu, who has pleaded not guilty, is facing charges of stealing a Range Rover, an ATM card, and GH¢27,000. He is accused of withdrawing the money using the deceased’s Ecobank ATM card between June 8 and 10, 2025.
The court has ordered him to reappear on July 14, 2025.
According to ASP Issah Achiburi, the complainant, Samuel Awuku Darko, is the elder brother of the deceased, Emmanuel Offei, who lived in Akropong Akuapem. Adu, a friend of the deceased, resides in Korleman near Medie.
Offei had been admitted to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in April but discharged himself on April 30. Later, on May 26, he traveled with Adu to Kumasi for prayers. Offei died on June 5 at a church premises, and Adu subsequently informed the family of his death.
While he returned the deceased’s phone to the family, Adu withheld the unregistered Range Rover and secretly kept Offei’s ATM card. From June 8 to 10, withdrawals totaling GH¢27,000 were made at ATMs in Kumasi and Pokuase-Amasaman.
The complainant reported the suspicious transactions to the CID Headquarters. On June 17, Adu was arrested at his rented home, where the police recovered GH¢35,356 and £40 during a search.
The deceased’s body is currently kept at a private mortuary in Tinkong awaiting autopsy. Investigations are still ongoing.
