- Sewoekpor: “No appointee has the right to hold a mining license”
- NAIMOS efforts praised as proof of government’s commitment
A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Team, Delali Sewoekpor, has reaffirmed that President John Dramani Mahama will not hesitate to sanction any NDC member found engaging in illegal mining (galamsey).
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Monday, November 3, 2025, Mr. Sewoekpor emphasized that President Mahama’s position on illegal mining is firm and non-negotiable, irrespective of party lines.
“Pollution may begin locally, but its impact is global. I have full confidence in President John Dramani Mahama’s resolve to fight galamsey. If any NDC MP or member is found guilty, the President will take decisive action,”
he stated.
Mr. Sewoekpor added that the President’s zero-tolerance policy reflects the public’s growing demand for accountability in the fight against illegal mining.
“Ghanaians have reached a point where impunity can no longer be tolerated. The President has made it clear: no government appointee—whether NDC or otherwise—has the right to hold a mining license or lease,”
he stressed.
He also praised the efforts of the National Inter-Ministerial Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), noting that its work highlights the government’s serious commitment to eradicating galamsey.
“The activities of NAIMOS clearly demonstrate the government’s dedication to addressing illegal mining. Even the NPP should commend President Mahama for his strong leadership on this issue,”
Mr. Sewoekpor added.
