Man Remanded for Stabbing Firefighter at Adjiriganor

The Accra District Court has remanded Sampson Azumah, the man accused of stabbing a firefighter during a fire incident at Adjiriganor last Friday, into police custody for two weeks.

Azumah, who was arrested at the scene by firefighters and handed over to the police, appeared before the court on Monday following the November 14 attack, which left a Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) officer injured while responding to an emergency.

He has been charged with causing bodily harm to a fire officer.

Greater Accra Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Rashid Kwame Nisawu, confirmed the development after Azumah’s initial court appearance. His next court date is set for December 10, 2025.

The court directed that he remain in custody as investigations continue.

ACFO II Nisawu stressed that the GNFS takes the incident very seriously and is committed to securing justice for the injured officer.

Responding to reports that Azumah appeared distressed and cried in court, he said such emotional reactions would not influence the determination to pursue justice.

“These issues have persisted for too long. Whether he cried in court or not, we will not be deterred from seeking justice. If we fail to enforce the law and protect this young officer, others will not feel encouraged or motivated in this profession,” he stated.

He added that the GNFS leadership, from the Chief Fire Officer to regional commanders, remains committed to safeguarding personnel and ensuring that attacks on firefighters are treated with utmost seriousness.

The injured firefighter is currently receiving medical treatment.
