The Dansoman Circuit Court has sentenced 48-year-old head porter, Yaw Asare, to two years in prison at Nsawam for unlawfully damaging public road infrastructure at the newly completed Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange.
Asare was arrested on June 9, 2025, for deliberately destroying parapet beams and related components at the site, according to the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
He was found guilty of “causing unlawful damage” under Section 172 of the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29).
The Ministry expressed concern over the growing trend of vandalism and traffic-related incidents damaging public road assets, especially traffic lights. It emphasized that tampering with public infrastructure is a criminal act.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Ghana Police Service to ensure offenders are held accountable and face appropriate legal consequences.
