The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has donated medical equipment valued at $1.5 million to the Ga North Municipal Hospital, reaffirming the government’s dedication to improving healthcare delivery nationwide.

During the presentation ceremony, Mr. Akandoh explained that the initiative followed an unannounced visit to the hospital, where he observed significant shortages of critical medical equipment, hindering effective operations.

The donation comprises over 30 items, including anaesthesia machines, incubators, ECG machines, nebulisers, sterilisers, hospital beds, delivery sets, ward screens, and other essential tools.

Calling the donation a significant capital investment, the Minister urged hospital administrators to prioritise maintenance and ensure the efficient use of the equipment.

“Healthcare delivery depends on three main pillars: infrastructure, personnel, and equipment. We must not neglect existing facilities while focusing solely on building new ones. These tools are meant to improve care and must be properly maintained,” he emphasised.

Dr. Victor Caesar, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, expressed appreciation on behalf of staff and patients, highlighting the urgent need for anaesthesia machines in particular.

“This donation will significantly enhance our ability to serve the community. We assure the Minister and the Ministry that these items will be properly maintained and put to good use,” he stated.
