A fire broke out on Monday evening at Oyoko Methodist Senior High School in Koforidua, Eastern Region, completely destroying the housemaster’s residence.
The blaze ravaged the entire structure, consuming the roof, ceiling, furniture, personal items, and appliances. Fortunately, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly, preventing the fire from spreading to the nearby boys’ dormitory.
According to GNFS, the fire began at approximately 6:30 p.m. Two fire engines were dispatched, with the first arriving at 6:34 p.m. The fire was brought under control by 7:24 p.m. and fully extinguished by 8:29 p.m.
Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was likely caused by an electrical fault in the ceiling, though a comprehensive probe is still underway.
This is the third fire incident at a public institution within 24 hours, raising growing concerns about safety standards and fire preparedness on school campuses.
School authorities have praised the Ghana National Fire Service for their quick and professional intervention, which helped avert a potentially much worse tragedy.
