DStv Promo Misrepresented as Price Reduction – Haruna

Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has pushed back against assertions by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, that government intervention led to a reduction in DStv subscription prices in Ghana.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s “The Big Issue” on Saturday, October 4, 2025, Mr. Mohammed argued that the changes in DStv packages are not the result of any government action but rather part of MultiChoice’s regular marketing promotions.

“There has been no structural reduction in DStv prices. The Minister’s claims are misleading and unfounded,” Mohammed stated. “If you visit the DStv website, you’ll see this is clearly a promotional campaign aimed at attracting more customers—something they do regularly.”

He emphasized that the current offers are temporary, subject to review after three months, and not indicative of any permanent price adjustment.

“The price on my DStv portal is unchanged. What we’re seeing is a three-month promotional offer. After that, DStv will decide whether to continue or end it. That’s standard marketing practice,” he added.

Earlier, Minister Samuel Nartey George had announced that beginning October 1, 2025, DStv customers in Ghana would receive enhanced value across all packages, following what he described as a landmark agreement between the government and MultiChoice Africa. He claimed the upgrades would offer subscribers 33% to 50% more value, depending on their chosen package.
