Former Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has pledged to make education the cornerstone of his leadership agenda if elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and eventually President of Ghana in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking at the launch of his campaign in Adansi Asokwa, located in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Adutwum described education as the most powerful driver of national transformation and long-term development.
“Education remains the most effective tool for transforming the country and positioning it for sustained growth,” he told NPP supporters.
Dr. Adutwum stressed the importance of quality, inclusive, and accessible education, noting that equipping young people with the right skills is essential to boost Ghana’s global competitiveness. He also underscored the critical role of accountability in governance.
“Accountability is the key to achieving better performance in governance. Leaders must remain vigilant—without proper oversight, those expected to support a vision may end up being the cause of failure,” he cautioned.
Just two days after appearing before the NPP’s vetting committee, Dr. Adutwum kicked off a regional campaign dubbed the “Hope Tour,” engaging with delegates across the Ashanti Region ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.
The NPP’s flagbearer race, scheduled for January 31, 2026, is expected to be closely contested. Key contenders include former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong, and Dr. Adutwum.
