Dr. Otoo Suggests Possible Sabotage in Z-9 Incident

- Dr. Rebert Nestor Otoo rejects claims weather caused the Z-9 crash
- Says pilot was highly trained and experienced
- Stresses aircraft carrying VIPs must undergo thorough checks
British Army aircraft engineer, Dr. Rebert Nestor Otoo, has dismissed claims that poor weather was responsible for the Z-9 helicopter crash that occurred last Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals, including two government ministers.
Speaking on Burning Issues on Adom FM, Dr. Otoo argued that Ghana’s weather conditions are generally suitable for aviation and emphasized that the pilot involved was highly experienced.
“Pilots receive extensive training, and being tasked with transporting high-profile individuals indicates a strong level of competence. I don’t believe this was a weather-related incident,” he said.
Dr. Otoo suggested that the crash might have been caused by a mechanical failure or even sabotage, pointing out that aircraft go through strict pre-flight inspections. However, he noted that a lapse in maintenance or deliberate tampering could have led to the tragedy.
“The moment I heard about the crash, I suspected sabotage. Aircraft carrying important passengers must be checked with the utmost precision. A helicopter doesn’t just fall from the sky without a significant cause,” he added.
He also highlighted that a total loss of power mid-air is highly unusual, and should not be immediately blamed on pilot error.
