Commercial transport operators across Ghana have issued a three-day ultimatum to the Ghana Police Service, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, and other relevant authorities to remove traders occupying roads and bus stops nationwide.
In a press release dated December 14, 2025, the operators referenced Regulation 117 of the Road Traffic Regulations, LI 2180 (2012), which expressly prohibits the sale of goods and services on roads. They stressed that the continued presence of traders on roads and at transport terminals poses serious safety risks and obstructs the free flow of traffic.
The operators are demanding the immediate evacuation of all traders from major roads and bus stops within the stipulated three-day period. They further called on the assemblies and enforcement agencies to strictly enforce the law and ensure that roads and transport terminals remain safe and accessible to all users.
The group warned that failure to comply with this directive would leave them with no option but to take nationwide industrial action. This would include the complete withdrawal of commercial transport services on Thursday, December 18, 2025. They noted that they would not be held responsible for any inconvenience or disruption to travel plans arising from this action.
Additionally, the operators appealed to all commercial drivers, transport unions, and associations to unite and support the initiative aimed at reclaiming roads and bus stops for their intended purposes.
PRESS RELEASE
Date: 14th December 2025
Title: Commercial Transport Operators Give Ghana Police Service and Assemblies Three-Day Ultimatum to Evacuate Traders from Roads and Bus Stops
To: Traders, Metropolitan Assemblies, Municipal Assemblies, District Assemblies, and Relevant Authorities
Commercial transport operators are hereby issuing a three-day ultimatum to all traders occupying roads and bus stops across the country to vacate these areas immediately.
Regulation 117 of the Road Traffic Regulations, LI 2180 (2012), clearly states:
“No person shall sell or offer for sale any goods or services on a road.”
The law is explicit and must be enforced without exception.
Our Demands
- All traders must vacate roads and bus stops within three (3) days.
- Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies must strictly enforce the Road Traffic Regulations, LI 2180 (2012).
- Relevant authorities must ensure that roads and bus stops are safe, accessible, and free from obstruction.
Consequences of Non-Compliance
Should these demands not be met within the stipulated period, commercial transport operators will be compelled to take decisive action. As a result, no commercial vehicle will operate nationwide on Thursday, December 18, 2025. Transport operators will not be held responsible for any travel disruptions arising from this action.
Call to Action
We urge all commercial transport operators, driver unions, and associations to stand united in support of this action. Together, we can reclaim our roads and bus stops for safe and efficient transportation.
