- Cybercrime unit busted syndicate in Tema Community 25
A 30-year-old businessman, Obasuyi Efosa Bright, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly trafficking five Nigerian nationals to Ghana under the guise of offering them employment.
Bright faces five counts of human trafficking but has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
According to the prosecution, the victims — aged between 19 and 25 — were lured to Ghana with promises of well-paying jobs. However, upon arrival, they were allegedly forced to engage in online romance scams.
The court granted Bright bail set at GHC100,000 with two sureties, and he is required to report to the police twice a month. The court also directed the prosecution to file and serve disclosures to both the defence and the accused.
On August 21, 2025, police received intelligence about Nigerian nationals housed in a property at Adom Estates, Tema Community 25, suspected of involvement in cybercrime. A joint team from the CID Cybercrime Unit and the Cyber Security Authority raided the location and found Bright and five others occupying a three-bedroom apartment.
Inside, six laptops connected to an active internet connection were discovered. They were allegedly running a Korean app, “BAND”, used in defrauding unsuspecting victims online.
Investigations identified Bright as the alleged ringleader of a cybercrime syndicate, responsible for trafficking and controlling the other five individuals.
He was arrested, and the victims were rescued. The seized laptops will be sent to the Forensic Laboratory for further analysis. The victims are currently in a safe location, while investigations continue.
