The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Buem-Jasikan Municipal Assembly in the Oti Region, Park-Davies Magyiegbe, has pledged to make education and teacher welfare a top priority in the municipality.

He expressed optimism that the teacher prize scheme would continue to promote professionalism, recognise excellence, and encourage healthy competition among teachers—factors he said are essential to improving effective teaching and learning across Buem-Jasikan. The MCE made these remarks at the third edition of the Buem-Jasikan Municipal Best Teacher Awards, held under the theme “Elevating the Status of Teachers for Quality Education.” The initiative seeks to motivate, retain, and enhance teacher performance to raise educational standards in the municipality.

Award categories included Best Female Teacher of the Year, Best Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Officer, and Best Female and Male Teacher with Disabilities, among others.

In his address, Mr. Magyiegbe highlighted ongoing educational projects and the provision of teaching and learning logistics aimed at strengthening the sector. He assured teachers that the assembly would prioritise the construction of teachers’ bungalows in rural communities, improve road networks, and enhance mobile network coverage in remote areas.

He also pledged to provide motorbikes to teachers to ease transportation challenges in hard-to-reach communities.

In a show of support, the Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency and Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams Iddi, rewarded Abigail Bowman, the Overall Best Teacher in the Jasikan Municipality, with GH₵10,000, a double-decker refrigerator, a water dispenser, a 32-inch television, and a certificate of excellence.

The Sports and Recreation Minister further promised to support education through the provision of additional infrastructure and logistics and pledged to donate a car at the next edition of the teachers’ awards to further motivate educators.

Speaking to Adom News, the Overall Municipal Best Teacher, Abigail Bowman, appealed to the government to improve educational standards in the municipality, particularly through the construction of more school facilities. She noted that inadequate infrastructure and limited access to learning materials continue to hamper effective teaching.

She added that the awards scheme serves as a strong motivation for teachers to give their best and contribute meaningfully to improving education in the area.
