Ahafo NADMO Calls for Disaster Response Fund

- NADMO Ahafo Director, Nana Adu Bonsu Gabriel, advocates for a regional disaster fund
- Fund aims to improve preparedness, education, and emergency response
- Resource constraints hinder NADMO's relief efforts
The Ahafo Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Nana Adu Bonsu Gabriel, has urged stakeholders to support the creation of a disaster response fund aimed at boosting disaster preparedness and recovery across the region.
He made the appeal during an interview with Adom News in Goaso as part of the commemoration of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, celebrated under the theme “Fund Resilience, Not Disaster.”
Mr. Bonsu explained that the proposed fund would empower NADMO to carry out consistent public education campaigns and respond more efficiently to disaster-related emergencies.
He highlighted the persistent challenge of limited resources, which continues to hinder NADMO’s ability to deliver timely relief and implement preventive measures.
“For years, NADMO has operated with inadequate logistics and funding. Establishing a regional fund will allow us to better educate communities and provide prompt support to disaster victims,” he stated.
Mr. Bonsu appealed to regional and local authorities, traditional rulers, religious groups, civil society organizations, and the private sector to contribute to the fund, emphasizing that effective disaster prevention and management require a united effort.
Presiding over the event, the Paramount Queen Mother of Goaso, Nana Afia Serwaa, praised NADMO’s initiative and advised residents to refrain from harmful practices that heighten disaster risks, such as dumping waste in drains, deforestation, and constructing buildings on waterways.
She further called for increased collaboration among all stakeholders to strengthen disaster resilience and safeguard lives and property throughout the Ahafo Region.
