- Lands Minister says review process has already begun
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has announced that the government will review all public lands previously sold to ensure the transactions offered value for money.
Speaking during a visit by the Vice-President to the Ministry, Mr. Buah said the review process has already begun. He explained that several parcels of land originally acquired by the state for specific purposes—including agriculture and other public uses—are now under government ownership, making their management a national responsibility.
He acknowledged that while some individuals were entrusted to safeguard these lands, there have been cases of misuse and abuse of that responsibility.
Mr. Buah stressed that President John Dramani Mahama is firmly committed to ensuring proper management of public lands. He revealed that a special team, led by his deputy, has been constituted with Cabinet approval to address the issue on a long-term basis.
Issuing a strong warning to public officials, the Minister cautioned against any attempt to misappropriate state lands, stating that offenders would be publicly exposed. “By the time we are done, no government official will even contemplate taking public land,” he said.
Mr. Buah further disclosed that Cabinet has approved a comprehensive review of all previously sold public lands to confirm that due process was followed and that the state received fair value.
He added that transactions where required processes were not fully completed would be automatically cancelled, assuring Ghanaians that the government is determined to strictly implement Cabinet’s directives and safeguard public lands for the benefit of the nation.
