The family of the late former Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, will host the 13th Commemorative Adua in his honour on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at No. 4 Switchback Road, Cantonments, starting at 9:00 a.m.

The solemn Islamic prayer service will unite family members, political leaders, friends, and the Muslim community to reflect on and pray for the late statesman, celebrated for his humility, discipline, and dedication to national unity.

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, will serve as the Special Guest, leading prayers and delivering a message centred on peace, reflection, and faith. A number of dignitaries from government, opposition parties, and traditional authorities are expected to attend — a testament to Alhaji Aliu Mahama’s enduring legacy and cross-party respect.

The Adua, a significant Islamic remembrance rite, will honour the late Vice President’s lifelong commitment to discipline, integrity, and nation-building.

Alhaji Aliu Mahama served as Vice President of the Republic of Ghana from January 7, 2001, to January 7, 2009, under President John Agyekum Kufuor. Until his passing in November 2012, he was revered as a symbol of patriotism and moral leadership, inspiring many through his dedication to public service and youth discipline.

This year’s commemoration will celebrate his remarkable contributions to national development, his advocacy for discipline among the youth, and his unwavering commitment to harmony and tolerance within Ghana’s diverse society.
