Nexans Kabelmetal Ghana Launches Solar Power System to Boost Green Manufacturing

Nexans Kabelmetal Ghana Ltd, a subsidiary of Nexans and a leading provider of advanced cabling solutions, has commissioned a 532kWp grid-tied solar power system at its Tema manufacturing plant. The solar installation, developed in partnership with Daystar Power—a top hybrid solar energy provider in Africa and part of the Shell Group—will now supply 25% of the facility’s total energy needs.

The system includes 900 photovoltaic panels connected using Nexans solutions and will generate over 47.7 MWh of electricity monthly. This will cover 55% of the factory’s daytime energy demand and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 11.7 tons per quarter, significantly cutting the company’s reliance on Ghana’s national grid.

The project was officially launched in the presence of Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister of Energy and Green Transition, and H.E. Jules-Armand Aniambossou, French Ambassador to Ghana.

CEO of Nexans Kabelmetal Ghana Ltd, Mr. Alexander Quarcoopome, hailed the achievement as a pivotal step in the company’s E3 strategy—delivering economic growth, minimizing environmental impact, and engaging communities. “We are proud to lead by example in Ghana’s energy transition and prove that sustainability can go hand in hand with industrial excellence,” he said.

French Ambassador H.E. Jules-Armand Aniambossou added, “This project showcases how private sector innovation can drive sustainable industrial growth. Nexans is setting the benchmark for balancing industry with environmental stewardship.”

Victor Ezenwoko, Country Head of Daystar Power Ghana, emphasized the importance of solar in driving decarbonization. “Nexans is leading the way in how companies can cut emissions and reduce energy costs through solar power. We’re proud this is our first ground-mounted system in Ghana’s top industrial zone.”

This investment underscores Nexans’ commitment to advancing renewable energy and supporting Ghana’s green energy goals, while reinforcing its leadership in sustainable manufacturing.
