Court Directs EPA to Destroy Seized Narcotics in Large Quantities

A significant quantity of narcotics, including Indian hemp and cocaine, is set to be destroyed under the watchful eyes of Court Officials, Police, and the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA). The destruction of these drugs has been ordered by the Accra Circuit Court, with directives given between 2021 and 2024.

The narcotics to be destroyed comprise a substantial amount, including 242 fertilizer sacks, 315 wraps, 24 sachets, and 68 compressed slabs of various substances. The exercise will be carried out at a designated location, specifically the seashore behind the Black Star Square in Accra.

Officials are currently awaiting the final delivery of the narcotics, which will mark the third and last consignment, before commencing the destruction process. The destruction of these narcotics is a significant step towards reducing the availability of illegal substances in the country.\

The EPA, in collaboration with the Court and Police, will ensure that the destruction process is carried out in an environmentally friendly manner. The exercise is expected to be completed soon, once the final delivery is made and all necessary preparations are in place.

The destruction of these narcotics sends a strong message to those involved in the illicit drug trade that their activities will not be tolerated. By destroying these substances, the authorities aim to prevent them from entering the market and causing harm to individuals and communities.
