Chief Justice Alleges Threats To Force resignation

Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has claimed that she has received threats aimed at forcing her to resign amid the ongoing inquiry into petitions seeking her removal from office.

She disclosed this during a press conference on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, though she did not identify those responsible for the threats.

“I have also received threats indicating that if I do not resign or retire voluntarily, I will be subjected to harm,” she stated.

Justice Torkornoo further criticized the committee investigating the petitions, describing the process as politically driven and intended to take control of the Judiciary.

She asserted that the entire inquiry is part of “a political agenda to remove me and control the Judiciary,” citing widespread media commentary as evidence of the motive behind the petitions.

She also expressed concerns about how evidence is being managed during the hearings, accusing the petitioners’ lawyers of selectively influencing which materials are presented.

“The proceedings are being treated like a normal litigation between the petitioners and myself. Their lawyers now choose which parts of the evidence submitted by public officials are presented, violating established rules governing committee of inquiry proceedings,” she said.
